Brrrr...cold week

Woke up for the past three days with the temperature hanging around 18 degrees. It's COLD.

Last night, we performed Stacy Spence's piece at Skirball. I think it went really well. It's always strange to acclimate yourself to a new stage or space. For this show, we were only given one run at tech. So everything felt new on that stage, even at the performance. Post-Skirball, Kristin, Leanne, Ben, and I resorted to our Soup'n'Burger tradition. There's nothing like diner food after performing!

Learned a couple days ago that the intensive program I was thinking about costs a pretty penny, so that's out.

Tomorrow is the first tech for Kristin's piece in Brooklyn.

Today will consist of bundling up and trekking to Whole Foods in Tribeca for some grocery shopping. Then homework/cleaning/Avatar watching??

Audition

http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=3407219&id=53947528249

Audition for an awesome summer program coming up. Choreographers include Sidra Bell, Kyle Abraham, Jill Johnson, and Andrea Miller.

I hope that I can attend the audition, as Kristin's tech is happening on the same day (and partially overlaps the audition). However, Jill Johnson is teaching a masterclass at Tisch this week and I'm going to see what I can do. Although this may be an unpaid program, it gives the opportunity with four well-known choreographers in the New York City region.

If I have the opportunity to attend, the audition will last from 11:00-5:00 at the Baryshnikov Arts Center this Sunday.

Wish me luck!

Rehearsals and Sibelius

The first week back is always rough.

I've been in rehearsals for 5 different pieces--which is taxing on the body and the mind. Stacy Spence's piece is being performed at Skirball next week as part of the Tisch Alumni show and Kristin's piece ("Depth of Field") will be performed the week following.

(Below: Skirball Theater at NYU)

Also, went to open my new Sibelius notation software a few days ago...and it couldn't get past the splash screen. So this weekend will be spent trying to solve that problem. And studying (of course)...oh well...

DanceNow RAW

I've been working on putting together an informal showing at Tisch since December. Fortunately, I've been able to collaborate with the wonderful Sydney Skybetter for this project. Sydney has graciously offered Tisch dance choreographers 8 slots in the DanceNow Raw festival at Tisch on April 10th. This is a wonderful opportunity for choreographers to create new work within an informal environment.

"The Raw Festival studio series was designed to promote emerging choreographic voices and artists previously unseen by the Producers of DanceNOW[NYC]. While serving as a means to identify works for the Fall Festival at the Dance Theater Workshop, this program provides valuable exposure for artists, as well as access to a rich peer network, subsidized photographers, videographers, and producers from other dance presenters in New York City."

If you are a Tisch dance student and would like to participate or find out more about the festival, visit http://www.dancenownyc.org/index.php and click on the left tab. The application deadline is March 1st.

Good luck!

Back in the Swing of Things

Get ready--the semester has started. And it's not going to be an easy one, either.

As it is the last semester, the dance majors are getting anxious to perform and graduate. Our next show is at the end of February and I will be performing in three works: two student pieces and Jim Sutton's comical murder mystery piece. For Jim's piece, I finally get the chance to dance and play the piano. It's going to be a light-hearted piece and I'm excited to perform it.

As for academics...
It seems that it might not be a super difficult semester. I'm finishing up my economics double major with Urban Economics and Corporate Finance. Not bad.

Along the job front--I'm trying to get in contact with dance faculty that could help me get a small time internship at performance spaces around the city. Symphony Space, BAM, Joyce (SoHo) or maybe even Carnegie or Lincoln Center affiliates. We'll see.
Trying to set up an appointment at Wasserman to talk about possible jobs related to business and economics (to pay the bills once out of college)...

That's all for now. Peace.
